In late-1950s suburbia, Juli Baker is certain the new boy across the street is the love of her life from the moment they meet in second grade; Bryce Loski would rather avoid the attention. Madeline Carroll's Juli stays outspoken and sure of herself as the years pass, while Callan McAuliffe gives Bryce a quieter, more embarrassed counterpoint. Following the pair from grade school into junior high, the story shifts between their points of view as crushes, family tensions, and neighborhood life reshape how each of them sees the other.
