In occupied France during World War II, café owner René Artois tries to keep his business running while everyone around him uses it for their own schemes. German officers drink at his tables, the local Resistance hides messages in plain sight, and two stranded British airmen need help getting out without being caught. On top of that, René gets tangled up in the fate of a stolen painting that different sides are desperate to control. Each plan collides with the next, turning the café into a meeting point for espionage, misunderstandings, and panic. As René, played by Gorden Kaye, scrambles to satisfy soldiers, rebels, and his suspicious wife, every secret becomes harder to hide.
