Annette Bening is Karen, a guarded physical therapist still carrying the loss of the daughter she surrendered for adoption as a teenager. Naomi Watts’s Elizabeth, adopted as a child and now a successful lawyer, keeps intimacy at arm’s length, while Lucy (Kerry Washington) and her husband, unable to conceive, begin the uncertain process of adopting a baby. Their lives unfold on separate tracks but circle the same questions about family, regret, and what gets passed from parent to child. Rodrigo García’s drama moves between these women with a close focus on private wounds, uneasy connections, and choices that keep echoing years later.
