After arresting a yakuza killer in New York, two NYPD detectives are ordered to escort him back to Japan, where he slips away and pulls them into an underworld they barely understand. Michael Douglas and Andy Garcia are the visiting cops, trying to track their suspect through Osaka while navigating local police procedure, gang rivalries, and the strict codes of organized crime. Ridley Scott places the investigation in a city of neon streets, crowded stations, and late-night back rooms, with Ken Takakura in the middle of the uneasy partnership between American swagger and Japanese protocol.
