Clint Eastwood is Walt Kowalski, a widowed Korean War veteran and retired auto worker whose simmering resentment is upended when the teenage neighbor next door is pushed into trying to steal his prized 1972 Gran Torino. After the failed theft, Thao (Bee Vang), a shy Hmong boy under pressure from a local gang, ends up in Walt’s orbit, pulling the old man into a family and a neighborhood he’s spent years keeping at a distance. Eastwood directs the film as Walt’s hostility, guilt, and rigid sense of duty collide with gang intimidation and an unexpected responsibility toward the people next door.
