Official Secrets

CrimeDocumentaryDramaThrillerWar112 min

On the eve of the 2003 Iraq invasion, British intelligence translator Katharine Gun leaks a classified NSA memo showing a US-UK effort to spy on UN diplomats and pressure them toward war. Keira Knightley is Gun, whose decision turns a secret document into a public criminal case under Britain’s Official Secrets Act. As the memo reaches the press through journalist Martin Bright, Matt Smith carries the story into the newsroom, while Ralph Fiennes enters later as lawyer Ben Emmerson, taking up Katharine’s defense as the case collides with government secrecy, the media, and the politics surrounding the push for war.
