Bad Lieutenant
CrimeDramaThriller96 min
An unnamed New York City police lieutenant is already drowning in drugs, gambling, and corruption when the rape of a young nun forces him to confront the wreckage of his life. Harvey Keitel is the cop, drifting from crime scenes to betting slips and backroom deals as debt, booze, and narcotics tighten their grip. The investigation cuts into his routines of extortion and self-destruction, pushing him toward guilt, Catholic imagery, and the possibility of forgiveness. Abel Ferrara’s film keeps the city close and unforgiving, with Keitel at the center as a cop trying to reckon with what he’s become.
