A circle of well-off friends keeps trying to sit down to a proper meal, only to have each gathering derailed by something stranger than the last. In drawing rooms, restaurants, and country houses, polite plans collapse into social embarrassments, official business, sudden intrusions, and dreamlike turns that make ordinary etiquette feel absurd. As the group presses on, their rituals of hospitality start to expose vanity, status games, and the emptiness behind their refined manners. Fernando Rey appears as the ambassador from the fictional republic of Miranda, moving through the same chain of interrupted dinners as the others, while Delphine Seyrig is part of the elegant circle that cannot quite manage to eat in peace.
