In turn-of-the-century London, a gifted composer-pianist is trying to finish his work and hold onto a respectable life when strange blackouts begin to swallow whole stretches of time. After each lapse, he finds himself surrounded by damage he cannot explain, and the fear of what he may have done starts to close in. As pressure mounts around his music and a consuming romance pulls him off balance, suspicion follows him from the concert hall into the streets. Laird Cregar’s troubled musician becomes trapped between ambition, desire, and a mind he can no longer trust, while Linda Darnell’s singer draws him deeper into a dangerous spiral.
