Law student Martin Bells (Ewan McGregor) takes an overnight job at a morgue, expecting quiet hours to study, and instead gets pulled into a murder investigation when the evidence starts to point at him. As a serial killer targets local prostitutes, Martin comes under the scrutiny of Inspector Thomas Cray (Nick Nolte), a detective whose methods are as unsettling as the crime scene details. What begins as a money-making side job turns into a run of sleepless shifts, police pressure, and mounting suspicion, with the fluorescent stillness of the morgue hanging over every turn.
