Homer and Marge Simpson are raising Bart, Lisa, and baby Maggie in Springfield, where school problems, dead-end jobs, neighborhood feuds, and civic disasters regularly spill into the family’s living room. Dan Castellaneta’s Homer is a nuclear plant worker with a short attention span and a talent for making things worse, while Julie Kavner gives Marge the patience that keeps the household from flying apart. Around them is a crowded town of teachers, cops, barflies, billionaires, and oddballs, as the series turns everyday American life into satire aimed at politics, media, religion, and suburban routine.
