In 2517, Captain Malcolm Reynolds scrapes out a living on the edges of an Alliance-dominated galaxy, hauling cargo and taking riskier jobs aboard the worn spaceship Serenity. Nathan Fillion is Mal, a former soldier whose small crew includes his unshakable first mate Zoë (Gina Torres), a pilot, a mercenary, a shepherd, and passengers who bring their own secrets and trouble onboard. As they move between backwater planets and lawless ports, the ship is pursued by authority agents, bounty hunters, and anyone else with reason to want them stopped. Frontier towns, cramped quarters, and patched-together tech give the series its space-western shape.
