Ruby is the only hearing member of her deaf family, spending her mornings on the fishing boat and her days interpreting the world for her parents and brother. Emilia Jones is Ruby, a teenager whose discovery that she can sing opens up a future beyond the family business just as that business comes under pressure. Troy Kotsur and Marlee Matlin are her parents, who depend on her in ways that are both practical and intimate. Between first love, choir rehearsals, and the demands of home, Ruby has to decide what her voice means to her family and what it might mean for her own life.
