Room 237

Documentary102 min

Room 237 turns Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining into the subject of its own investigation, following five sharply different theories about the film’s hidden meanings. Bill Blakemore and Geoffrey Cocks are among the voices guiding the search, while clips from Kubrick’s movies, animation, and dramatic reenactments replace standard talking-head interviews. Jack Nicholson’s face from the Overlook keeps resurfacing as the documentary lingers on background details, camera moves, and repeated images, treating the 1980 horror film as a maze of clues, symbols, and competing interpretations.
