Matthew Broderick is David Lightman, a high school hacker who goes looking for unreleased video games and accidentally logs into a Defense Department supercomputer built to simulate nuclear war. What he thinks is a harmless session sets off alarms at NORAD, where officials read the machine’s moves as a live Soviet threat. Ally Sheedy’s classmate friend gets pulled into David’s scramble to understand what he’s started, while John Wood brings a wary edge to the brilliant computer expert who may be the only person able to stop the system.
