An American in Paris

ComedyDramaMusicalRomance114 min

Ex-GI Jerry Mulligan stays in postwar Paris to build a life as a painter, but his new circle quickly turns art, money, and romance into the same problem. Gene Kelly is Jerry, an American expatriate trying to get noticed, while Oscar Levant's Adam is a struggling concert pianist tied to popular singer Henri Baurel. When a wealthy patron, Milo Roberts, begins backing Jerry's work, her interest goes beyond his paintings, and Leslie Caron becomes the young woman at the center of a growing tangle between friends. Gershwin music runs through cafés, studios, and Paris streets as the story moves toward dance, performance, and New Year's Eve.
