Late Autumn

ComedyDrama128 min

A widowed mother and her grown daughter find their private lives turned into a group project when three men who knew the late husband begin pushing both women toward marriage. Setsuko Hara is the mother, gently trying to persuade her daughter while facing the same pressure herself; Yoko Tsukasa is the daughter, caught between family expectations and her own sense of timing. Yasujirō Ozu frames the story through visits, matchmaking schemes, and carefully polite conversations, turning a domestic situation into a portrait of generational tension, affection, and the social rituals surrounding remarriage and adulthood.
