After killing two robbers in apparent self-defense at his small-town Indiana diner, Tom Stall finds his quiet family life pushed into the spotlight. Viggo Mortensen is Tom, a husband and father whose split-second act turns him into a local hero and brings national attention to his doorstep. At home, Tom and his lawyer wife Edie — Maria Bello — try to hold onto normal routines as a threatening stranger (Ed Harris) arrives in town, insisting Tom is not who he says he is. David Cronenberg turns that premise into a tense standoff between public image, marriage, and a past that may not stay buried.
