In England in 1600, Queen Elizabeth I promises a young aristocrat land and fortune on one condition: Orlando must never grow old. Tilda Swinton is Orlando, a poet and nobleman whose life stretches across centuries, courts, romances, and shifting ideas about gender and status. Quentin Crisp’s Elizabeth rules the opening with amused authority, while Billy Zane turns up as one of Orlando’s more elusive attachments. Moving from candlelit palaces into later eras, the story follows Orlando through social rituals, legal barriers, and a changing place in the world.
