In 1215 England, after King John seals the Magna Carta and then turns against it, a battered Templar knight joins the men holding Rochester Castle against the Crown’s mercenary army. James Purefoy leads the defenders, while Paul Giamatti’s John bears down on the fortress with a vicious campaign to crush the barons’ revolt. Brian Cox and Kate Mara are part of the outnumbered garrison as the fight closes in around battered walls, narrow passageways, and a kingdom-wide struggle reduced to one siege. The story keeps its focus on the clash between royal power and the small band trying to stop it.
