Paleontologist Kate Lloyd heads to a Norwegian research station in Antarctica after a buried discovery is pulled from the ice, only to learn the organism inside can imitate any living host. Mary Elizabeth Winstead is Kate, an outsider scientist trying to read the evidence before suspicion tears the team apart, with Joel Edgerton among the crew members scrambling to contain a threat no one can identify on sight. As a prequel to John Carpenter’s 1982 film, it traces the breakdown of an isolated outpost where every blood sample, closed room, and missing person turns into a test of who is still human.
