James Dunn and Sally Eilers are young working-class newlyweds who fall in love despite their doubts about romance, only to discover that mistrust and poor communication do not disappear with the wedding. As their courtship turns into married life, ordinary worries and crossed signals begin to shape the relationship, with Minna Gombell among the people around them. Made in 1931’s pre-Code Hollywood, the film stays close to the couple’s day-to-day life as affection, insecurity, and assumptions pull them in different directions.
