In a Britain deep into a second Cold War, programmer Vincent McCarthy is drawn into a Ministry of Defense effort to build a new kind of weapon: a humanlike combat android known as The Machine. Toby Stephens is McCarthy, working alongside Caity Lotz in a lab where artificial intelligence and military demands keep colliding. After an early prototype turns deadly, the project moves underground, and McCarthy's work shifts toward a version of the machine that begins to show signs of consciousness.
