Fitzcarraldo
ActionAdventureDrama158 min
Klaus Kinski is Brian Sweeney Fitzgerald, an Irish dreamer in the Peruvian Amazon known as Fitzcarraldo, who becomes obsessed with building an opera house in Iquitos. To finance it, he chases a rubber fortune in a remote stretch of rainforest, pushing a riverboat expedition into territory cut off by rapids, heat, and dense jungle. Werner Herzog frames the story around one man’s fixation on art, money, and scale, with Claudia Cardinale among the figures orbiting Fitzcarraldo’s scheme as the Amazon presses in on every step.
