Jennifer Aniston is a discount store clerk whose marriage and retail routine are shaken when she begins an affair with a younger co-worker. Jake Gyllenhaal’s stock boy sees himself as the incarnation of Holden Caulfield, bringing literary self-mythology and instability into her life, while John C. Reilly is the husband at home as secrecy starts to spread.
