Johnny Marco is a Hollywood actor hiding out at the Chateau Marmont, numbed by fame and the routines of tabloid celebrity, when his 11-year-old daughter Cleo arrives for an unexpected stay. Stephen Dorff’s Johnny drifts through hotel rooms, publicity obligations, and long stretches of empty downtime, while Elle Fanning gives Cleo an easy self-possession that unsettles his carefully detached life. Written and directed by Sofia Coppola, the film stays close to the insulated rhythms of celebrity culture and the tentative, awkward bond that starts to take shape between father and daughter.
