Emancipation

ActionAdventureDramaThrillerWar132 min

After escaping a Louisiana plantation in the 1860s, Peter fights his way through swamps and hostile territory in a desperate attempt to reach safety and get back to his family. Will Smith is Peter, an enslaved man moving through the days after the Emancipation Proclamation, when slavery still rules the landscape around him. Ben Foster’s slave hunter leads the pursuit, turning Peter’s flight toward Baton Rouge into a running battle against men, dogs, and the terrain itself. Inspired by a true story, the film keeps its focus on survival, separation, and the cost of freedom.
