Minamata
Drama115 min
In 1971, photojournalist W. Eugene Smith is living in retreat when one last assignment sends him to Minamata, a Japanese coastal city where mercury poisoning has upended daily life. Johnny Depp is Smith, a once-renowned war photographer drawn back into the field as he witnesses the damage done to local families and fishing communities. With help from translator Aileen (Minami) and under pressure from Life editor Robert Hayes (Bill Nighy), Smith begins documenting a disaster shaped by illness, denial, and the people demanding to be seen.
