In the 25th century, a midlevel Planetary Union officer gets a second chance when he’s given command of the exploratory starship USS Orville. Ed Mercer, played by Seth MacFarlane, expects a prestigious posting; instead he inherits a ship full of clashing personalities, routine assignments that turn dangerous, and the pressure of proving he belongs in the captain’s chair. Each mission sends the crew toward unknown planets, diplomatic standoffs, and first-contact problems that test both their judgment and their patience with one another. As the Orville pushes deeper into space, workplace friction and military duty keep colliding, turning cosmic adventures into a running struggle to hold the crew together.
