Vera Drake

CrimeDrama125 min

In 1950 London, Vera Drake moves through her days caring for her family, cleaning houses, and quietly helping women in desperate situations by performing illegal abortions. To the people around her, she is warm, busy, and utterly ordinary; the secrecy of what she does sits inside the routines of working-class family life. When one procedure goes wrong, that hidden part of her life collides with the law and with her family’s understanding of who she is. As the consequences spread from the women she helps to the people at her own table, the film follows how one act of private mercy becomes a public crisis.
