Rose Hathaway (Zoey Deutch) is a dhampir, a half-human, half-vampire guardian-in-training whose first duty is protecting her best friend, Lissa. After a year on the run, Rose and Lucy Fry's Lissa — a royal Moroi vampire princess — are brought back to St. Vladimir's Academy, the boarding school they left behind and the place Rose suspects may be most dangerous. Inside the academy walls, Lissa faces threats from people who want to use her; outside, the immortal Strigoi hunt her kind. Between training, school rivalries, and constant surveillance, Rose tries to keep Lissa safe without losing control of her own life.
