Rebecca Bunch is a successful New York lawyer who upends her life after a chance encounter with Josh, the old summer-camp boyfriend she never quite got over. On impulse, she moves to West Covina, California, telling herself she wants a fresh start, while quietly building her new life around being near him. Her plan gets messier as work, new friendships, and Josh’s existing relationship keep colliding with the fantasy in her head. The series turns Rebecca’s spirals, rationalizations, and romantic misfires into elaborate musical numbers, with Rachel Bloom at the center of a story about obsession, reinvention, and the gap between what Rebecca says she wants and what actually drives her.
