After a tragedy at sea, legendary rescue swimmer Ben Randall is reassigned to the U.S. Coast Guard's A School, where he trains the next class of Aviation Survival Technicians. Kevin Costner is Ben, carrying the reputation and losses of years in open-water rescue, while Ashton Kutcher's newest recruit arrives as a former high school swim champion with a troubled past and more confidence than discipline. Their clash shapes the film's first half, as brutal training, strict hierarchies, and the demands of the job push classroom lessons into life-or-death rescue work on the ocean.
