Defending Your Life

ComedyDramaFantasyRomanceSci-Fi112 min

After a sudden car crash, Daniel Miller (Albert Brooks), a Los Angeles advertising executive, arrives in Judgment City, a sleek way station where the newly dead must argue that they lived with enough courage to move on. As courtroom hearings replay the fears and hesitations that defined his life, Daniel finds himself drawn to Meryl Streep’s Julia, a fellow arrival whose confidence makes his own anxieties harder to ignore. Rip Torn turns up as the attorney assigned to defend him in a strangely orderly afterlife built around hotels, tribunals, and cosmic bureaucracy.
