The 39 Steps

CrimeMysteryThriller87 min

After a glamorous stranger is murdered in his London flat, Canadian visitor Richard Hannay is suddenly wanted by Scotland Yard and heads for Scotland, convinced the killing is tied to a spy ring called The 39 Steps. Robert Donat gives Hannay the quick-thinking, out-of-his-depth center of Alfred Hitchcock’s wrong-man story, as the pursuit moves from London stages and train cars to the Scottish countryside. Along the way, Hannay collides with Pamela (Madeleine Carroll), a skeptical traveler who becomes entangled in his flight while trying to decide whether he’s a killer, a crank, or the only person who understands what’s happening.
