After years living among gorillas in the jungle, renowned anthropologist Ethan Powell (Anthony Hopkins) is brought back in chains and confined to a prison for the criminally insane after a murder. Cuba Gooding Jr.'s Theo Caulder, a young psychiatrist with something to prove, is assigned to examine him. Powell barely engages, forcing Theo to look past the institution's diagnosis and into the life Powell left behind in the wild. What begins as a professional challenge becomes an uneasy battle of wills between a celebrated doctor and a man who walked away from human society.
