Parallel Mothers

Drama123 min

A chance meeting in a hospital room links two women whose accidental pregnancies arrive under very different circumstances. Penélope Cruz is Janis, an older photographer who faces motherhood without regret; Milena Smit’s Ana is a teenager, scared and unsteady as she approaches the same moment. After giving birth on the same day, their connection follows them beyond the ward as their lives begin to overlap in complicated ways. Pedro Almodóvar weaves their story of motherhood and intimacy with Janis’s effort to uncover a buried family history tied to the Spanish Civil War.
