Woody Allen is Z, a neurotic worker ant who wants more from colony life and gets his chance when he trades places with a soldier after crossing paths with Sharon Stone’s Princess Bala. What starts as a bid to stand out lands him in a ceremonial march, then on the front lines of a termite war under Gene Hackman’s General Mandible, whose designs reach far beyond the battlefield. Inside the colony’s rigid social order, Z’s scramble for romance and individuality turns him into an unlikely public figure.
