The King and I

DramaMusicalRomance133 min

Widowed schoolteacher Anna Leonowens travels to 1860s Siam to tutor the many children and wives of King Mongkut, only to find herself in a constant battle of wills inside the royal court. Deborah Kerr is Anna, a single mother determined to keep her independence in a palace governed by rank, ritual, and the King’s authority. Opposite her, Yul Brynner’s Mongkut is proud, curious, and stubborn, sparring with Anna as she teaches English, customs, and etiquette. Their clashes unfold against lessons, formal ceremonies, and urgent preparations for a reception meant to impress visiting European diplomats.
