After he’s framed and reduced to slave labor, Jackie Chan is Huo An, commander of the Protection Squad in the Han dynasty’s Western Regions. While rebuilding a fortress in the Western Desert, Huo An meets a Roman general, with John Cusack arriving in China after rescuing a young prince. Their uneasy alliance pulls together Chinese soldiers, displaced Romans, and the fragile politics of the Silk Road as larger forces close in. Adrien Brody turns up on the Roman side of the conflict, giving the story a broader East-meets-West scale than a typical historical action film.
