Emma

ComedyDramaRomance120 min

In 19th-century England, Emma Woodhouse spends her days arranging other people’s romances with complete confidence and mixed results. Gwyneth Paltrow is the clever, well-meaning matchmaker, forever nudging her friend Harriet (Toni Collette) toward unsuitable prospects while overlooking the trouble she stirs in her own circle. As Emma interferes in courtships and social visits, Jeremy Northam’s Mr. Knightley stands nearby with a clearer view of everyone involved, especially Emma herself. The story turns on drawing-room misreadings, social rank, and Emma’s belated sense that she may understand her own heart less well than she assumes.
