Where to Invade Next
ComedyDocumentary121 min
Armed with a mock plan to “invade” other countries, Michael Moore travels through Italy, France, Finland, Tunisia, Slovenia, Germany, and Portugal looking for ideas the United States has failed to adopt. In each stop, he talks with workers, teachers, officials, and families about policies that shape daily life: paid vacation, school lunches, prison reform, college tuition, drug policy, and women’s rights. The film uses the structure of a travelogue, but the running question is how these places handle social and economic problems differently and what those choices say about American priorities. As the trip moves from one country to the next, the comparisons sharpen into an argument about what a society decides its people are owed.
