In a British seaside village near summer’s end, a pack of local young men drift among holiday tourists, treating romance like a competitive game. Oliver Reed is Tinker, their swaggering leader and a strolling photographer who sets his sights on a fashion model from a wealthy family, played by Jane Merrow. What begins as another conquest turns more complicated when Tinker starts to fall for her and realizes the season’s flirtations don’t leave the locals untouched either. Michael Winner’s 1964 film stays close to the beach-town rituals of class, sex, and status as the holiday crowd and the village regulars circle each other.
