I, Tonya

Drama121 min

Tonya Harding climbs from a difficult childhood to the top ranks of U.S. figure skating, chasing Olympic success as trouble at home and in her marriage keeps intruding. Margot Robbie is Harding, following her rise through the 1990s and the scandal that comes to define her name. Jeff Gillooly (Sebastian Stan), Tonya’s volatile ex-husband, becomes entangled in an attack on rival Nancy Kerrigan, while Allison Janney’s LaVona looms over Tonya’s life with cutting, relentless pressure. Craig Gillespie frames the story through contradictory interviews and direct-to-camera asides, folding tabloid spectacle into a portrait of ambition, abuse, and the machinery around a public downfall.
