Embrace of the Serpent

ActionAdventureDrama125 min

Karamakate, an Amazonian shaman and the last survivor of his people, guides two separate expeditions through the Colombian rainforest, decades apart, as each outsider searches for the sacred yakruna plant. Nilbio Torres is the younger Karamakate, while Jan Bijvoet’s Theo and Brionne Davis’s Evan arrive as scientists whose journeys become records of contact, mistrust, and exchange. Drawn from the journals of early explorers, Ciro Guerra’s film moves between two timelines in the Amazon, where colonial violence and indigenous knowledge shape every encounter.
