Along India's Ganges River, four lives cross under the weight of caste, grief, and small-town judgment. Richa Chadha is a young woman carrying the fallout of a sexual encounter that ends in tragedy, while Vicky Kaushal's low-caste boy falls in love across the barriers around him. As a father bends his morals to shield his daughter from scandal and a child longs for a family of his own, their stories tie private desire to the rules that govern public shame.
