Retired supervillain Gru is trying to settle into life as a single father when the Anti-Villain League recruits him to help stop a dangerous new criminal. Steve Carell is Gru, now pulled between domestic life and undercover work, while Kristen Wiig’s Lucy Wilde arrives as the relentlessly upbeat agent who won’t take no for an answer. As Gru follows the trail of a stolen mutagen, the case points toward a larger threat, with Benjamin Bratt lending his voice to the swaggering El Macho. The sequel keeps the focus on spy gadgets, Minion mischief, and Gru’s uneasy move from villainy to law enforcement.
