Honeyland

DocumentaryDrama89 min

Hatidze Muratova lives in the mountains of North Macedonia with her ailing mother, Nazife, harvesting honey from wild hives by an old rule: take half, leave half for the bees. Her solitary routine shifts when Hussein Sam and his large, nomadic family move in nearby and turn to beekeeping themselves. As Hatidze tries to pass on what she knows, their push for more honey begins to upset the surrounding ecosystem and their uneasy neighborly bond. The film stays close to daily work, household care, and the balance between making a living and preserving the land that sustains them.
