Harold and Maude

ComedyDramaRomance92 min

Harold is a wealthy, death-obsessed young man who spends his time attending funerals and staging elaborate suicides, until an encounter with Maude, an irreverent woman nearing 80, shifts the terms of his life. Bud Cort is Harold, all blank stares and deadpan ritual; Ruth Gordon’s Maude crashes through his morbid routines with mischief, appetite, and a refusal to accept anyone else’s rules. Hal Ashby frames their connection as both awkward romance and coming-of-age story, balancing cemetery humor, family pressure, and a distinctly offbeat tenderness.
