Let the Right One In

DramaFantasyHorrorRomance115 min

In an early-1980s Stockholm suburb, bullied 12-year-old Oskar finds an unexpected companion in Eli, the pale new neighbor who only appears after dark. Kåre Hedebrant is Oskar, a lonely boy fixated on revenge against his classmates; Lina Leandersson’s Eli is wary, self-possessed, and strangely untouched by the winter cold. As the two begin an awkward, tender friendship, a series of local killings unsettles the neighborhood and casts a darker light on Eli’s arrival. Oskar is drawn to her anyway, even as small details — her nocturnal habits, her silence, the bloodshed nearby — become harder to explain.
